    Description

This program provides breast and pelvic exams, pap smears and mammograms to women who may not otherwise be able to afford these screening services.

Madison County Health Department began providing these services to Madison County residents in January 2001. Our caseload has been expanded from 50 women in the first year to over 900 women.

Women enrolled in the breast and cervical program are eligilbe to enroll in the Wisewoman Program - - which provides a cardiovascular screening component..  For more information on this, see our Illinois WiseWoman Program.

    Benefits

The overall goal of the program is to decrease morbidity and mortality from breast and cervical cancer. The State of Illinois does have a cancer Treatment Act that will pay for surgical and medical interventions for breast and cervical cancer. Low income, uninsured women in Madison County, regardless of where they were diagnosed with cancer, may be eligible for services under the Treatment Act.
