pertussis (Whooping cough)
Pertussis (Whooping Cough) is caused by a bacteria, easy spreads from person to person, and is know for uncontrollable, violent coughing which makes it hard to breathe. Pertussis is commonly found in the population; therefore, it is important to follow preventive measures to avoid possibly getting pertussis.
- Wash your hands often and properly
- Cover your mouth and nose when you cough and sneeze
- Stay at home if you are sick - Seek medical help and get checked
- Get vaccinated - Stay up to date on vaccinations (even as a teen or adult)

west nile virus
Madison County Health Department will be accepting birds for West Nile Virus testing from April 16-October 15, 2012. Birds should be dead no more than 24 hours with no obvious cause of death and kept refrigerated until the health department can pick it up.

diabetes self-management program
The Diabetes Self -Management Program (DSMP) is an evidence-based, self-management program offered through six workshops. Each workshop is for two and a half hours, once a week, for six weeks. DSMP is designed specifically for individuals with type II diabetes. For more information about this program or to register, please click here. This program is part of the Madison County Diabetes Prevention and Control Program - a partnership between Madison County Health Department and Coordinated Youth and Human Services - funded by the Illinois Department of Public Health.

Influenza vaccinations are available on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays during our regular clinic hours. Clinics are closed for lunch from noon to 1 PM.
