pertussis (Whooping cough)

Pertussis (Whooping Cough) is caused by a bacteria, easy spreads from person to person, and is know for uncontrollable, violent coughing which makes it hard to breathe. Pertussis is commonly found in the population; therefore, it is important to follow preventive measures to avoid possibly getting pertussis.

west nile virus

Madison County Health Department will be accepting birds for West Nile Virus testing from April 16-October 15, 2012.  Birds should be dead no more than 24 hours with no obvious cause of death and kept refrigerated until the health department can pick it up.

diabetes self-management program

The Diabetes Self -Management Program (DSMP) is an evidence-based, self-management program offered through six workshops.  Each workshop is for two and a half hours, once a week, for six weeks.  DSMP is designed specifically for individuals with type II diabetes.  For more information about this program or to register, please click hereClasses for May and June are now FULL; however, please call us to reserve a spot on the waiting list.  Call 877-3433 and ask for Marilyn.

This program is part of the Madison County Diabetes Prevention and Control Program - a partnership between Madison County Health Department and Coordinated Youth and Human Services - funded by the Illinois Department of Public Health.

As we enter the New Year, let us Resolve to be Ready in 2012. Consider making an emergency preparedness resolution this year and take these four important steps:

1.  Be informed about the different types of emergencies that can happen in your area and their appropriate responses.

2.  Make a family communication plan.

3.  Build an emergency kit.

4.  Get involved in community preparedness.

Influenza vaccinations are available on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays during our regular clinic hours. Clinics are closed for lunch from noon to 1 PM.
